Stephen qualified as a solicitor in 1983. His family has lived in Devon since 1716 when Francis Henry Dove was appointed Commissioner of the Navy at Plymouth. The story goes that moving from Scotland he preferred the drier Devon climate (!) and decided to stay.

Stephen grew up in Barnstaple and after graduating in law, joined Brewer Harding & Rowe in 1981. He became Managing Partner in 1993.

Stephen specialises in the management of financial affairs, trusts, wills and tax advice. He acts as attorney and trustee for many hundreds of clients in the area.

He is a qualified member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners and a member of Solicitors for the Elderly.

He has been much involved in local charities acting as Chairman or trustee of several over the years. He is currently Vice Chairman of Tawstock Parish Council. Hobbies include riding, walking less energetically than the very energetic family dogs, gardening and travel.
