Care Home Inadequacies - How we can help
The BBC has this morning reported that sadly three care home residents in Dorset have died, seven residents have been taken to hospital and approximately forty other residents have been evacuated from the care home to a nearby church. Initial enquiries appear to be focused on carbon monoxide poisoning, with one women being arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
This is no doubt a very shocking and distressing situation for the residents of the care home and their loved ones, as well as the staff who work at the home. More will be known about the incident in the coming days.
Luckily, incidents of this nature are very rare, with the majority of care homes being a safe and supportive environment, meeting the needs of some of the most vulnerable people in society. There are indeed excellent care homes available and when you are looking for a care home, the Care Quality Commission, as the independent regulator of health and social care in England, is a great place to start and to access independent inspection reports and care home ratings.
